African Responsible Tourism Awards

The winners of the 2019 African Responsible Tourism Awards will be announced at a ceremony at WTM Africa on 10 April at 16h45.

The African Responsible Tourism Awards were established in 2014 to celebrate and inspire change in the African tourism industry. It is an Africa-wide search of the most inspiring and enduring responsible tourism experiences. It celebrates the shining stars of responsible tourism – the individuals, organisations and destinations making a positive impact on local cultures, communities and biodiversity.

The awards is open to any organisation anywhere in Africa. The 2019 longlisters include 36 tourism organisations from Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. These organisations will compete for the top spots in seven categories that focus on community benefits, conservation, resource management, attractions, events, cultural and heritage experiences, and the Global Goals.

The judges meet to debate the entries on 29 March, and the finalists will be announced on that day. The African Responsible Tourism Awards is organised by Better Tourism Africa and is sponsored by Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape.
